Titus Livius (59 BC – AD 17), known as Livy in English, was a Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome and the Roman people, Ab Urbe Condita Libri, "Chapters from the Foundation of the City," covering the period from the earliest legends of Rome well before the traditional foundation in 753 BC through the reign of Augustus in Livy's own time. He was on familiar terms with the Julio-Claudian family, advising Augustus' grandnephew, the future emperor Claudius, as a young man not long before AD 14 in a letter to take up the writing of history. Livy and Augustus' wife, Livia, were from the same clan in different locations, although not related by blood.

What obstacles did Hannibal face on his journey?
Q. how did he resolve them? what were his solutions, and what references does livy make?
Asked by milly - Wed Oct 28 14:54:17 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Some obstacles: He had to cross the Alps in order to get into northern Italy. He lacked sturdy supply lines, so it was hard to feed his army. He also did not have siege equipment. This prevented him from sieging Rome which would have eventually led to the control of the entire Roman Empire. Hannibal did not have any solution to this. Instead of attacking Rome, he traveled across Italy, attacking Roman outlying cities. He was too strong to be defeated by the Roman army, and too weak to defeat the city of Rome. Rome attacked his homeland of Carthage in North Africa while Hannibal was in Italy. He was forced to retreat back there, where he was defeated. That's all i know off the top of my head.
