Titus Livius (traditionally 59 BC – AD 17), known as Livy in English, was a Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome and the Roman people, Ab Urbe Condita, from before the foundation of the city (traditionally dated to 753 BC) through to the reign of Augustus in Livy's own time.

The new consuls, Cnaeus Servilius and Caius Servilius, laid before the senate the questions of the general policy of the republic, the conduct of the war and the assignment of the provinces. It was resolved that the consuls should come to an arrangement, or failing that decide by ballot, which of them should oppose Hannibal in Bruttium whilst the other should have Etruria and the Ligurians as his province...

A. It seems to be a marine motto "mors ante pudorem", but neither Ovid nor Livy nor any other major author said it, at least not in those exact words.
